Wanted in young man’s murder

Police are searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old male last month.

The Homicide Fugitive Division is searching for the man believed to have shot and killed a 23-year-old man on the 2700 block of Tasker Street Sept. 29.

Henry Hill, 21, of the 2700 block of Reed Street, is wanted for the murder of Lance Harris, said Capt. Charles Bloom of the Homicide Unit.

Detectives believe Hill shot Harris after a fistfight just blocks from the victim’s home on the 1500 block of South Ringgold Street, Bloom said. As of Tuesday, the motive for the fight remained unclear, said the captain.

Police found Harris around 12:20 p.m. with a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania less than a half-hour later.

Arrest in Sigel St. shooting

It was one of the more publicized and alarming shootings this past summer.

On the night of Aug. 19, two men in a 1998 dark-blue Mitsubishi drove up to the corner of 21st and Sigel streets and opened fire on a 23-year-old male, police said.

In retaliation, Malcolm Richardson, of the 2000 block of Sigel Street, allegedly shot back at the vehicle as it sped off, wounding three innocent bystanders, said police.

A 12-year-old girl and her 41-year-old father suffered graze wounds. Another 12-year-old was struck in the chest and right thumb as she walked out of a corner store, and had to have part of her thumb amputated. Richardson was shot in the arm, leg and back.

On Sept. 25, police arrested Thelonious Parker, 24, of the 2000 block of Mercy Street, and charged him with Richardson’s shooting, said Sgt. Steve Biello of South Detective Division. Parker faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment of another person and weapons offenses.

A police investigation revealed that Parker shot Richardson in retaliation for a previous robbery, the sergeant said.

But the target of the bullets ended up in just as much trouble. Police arrested Richardson Aug. 30 after concluding that he fired back at the Mitsubishi, wounding the bystanders, Biello said. Richardson was charged with three counts each of aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment of another person and weapons offenses.

Wrestler to the rescue

It must have looked like a scene out of a movie last Friday morning on the 900 block of Christian Street.

When local professional wrestler Bill Reil saw a man on Rollerblades attempting to mug his elder neighbor around 11:30 a.m., he ran out of the house clad only in his underwear, commandeered a bicycle from a young man and then tackled the culprit.

While police were unable to confirm Reil’s involvement, one of the wrestler’s neighbors on the 800 block of Delhi Street called the Review shortly after the incident and confirmed the story, as did Reil himself.

According to police, the Rollerblading bandit approached the 61-year-old victim, snatched her black purse, then attempted to flee north toward Christian Street.

Sgt. Steve Biello of South Detectives said the victim’s purse was recovered, and she was not injured in the confrontation. Police arrested Jeffrey Bayer, 22, of the 7000 block of Reedland Street.

Bedridden man attacked

Two men posing as home healthcare workers entered the residence of a bedridden elderly man Monday and assaulted him at gunpoint, then ransacked the place, police said.

The first of the two men entered the home on the 1700 block of South 29th Street around 1:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Steve Biello of South Detectives.

The intruder put a gun to the 79-year-old man’s head, knocking off his glasses, the sergeant added. The robber then let his accomplice inside, and the two proceeded to ransack the property.

The victim’s daughter is aiding authorities in trying to determine exactly what was stolen.

Stabbed in the stomach

A 24-year-old man remains in stable condition at St. Agnes Medical Center after being stabbed in the stomach during a Tuesday-afternoon mugging, police said.

The knife-wielding attacker approached the victim from behind as he was walking on the 1800 block of Dickinson Street around 12:30 p.m., said Sgt. Steve Biello of South Detectives. The culprit attempted to rob the man by rummaging through his pants pockets, but the victim resisted, and that’s when he was stabbed, Biello said.

The bandit got away with $100, said the sergeant.
