Ten Spot rapists sentenced

The four men convicted of rape, robbery and related crimes in connection with an incident last year at a South Philly tavern will spend decades behind bars.

Common Pleas Judge Teresa Sarmina handed down the defendants’ prison sentences last Wednesday, according to court records. Todd White was sentenced to 48 to 123 years. Keith Graves received 42 to 125 years. Takay Taylor will serve 47 to 125 years, and his brother, David Taylor, received 12 to 35 years.

The men had been found guilty of rape, robbery and weapons charges stemming from the July 29, 2001 heist at the Ten Spot Saloon, 10th and Tasker streets.

According to victims’ reports, the men entered the bar around 1 a.m. the morning of the attack. Just before 2 a.m., as employees began to close the place, the men donned black ski masks, pulled out guns and ordered patrons to the floor.

The patrons and employees were led downstairs into a stockroom, where they were ordered to strip so the thieves could search their clothes for money and valuables.

The masked men then beat the victims with a sawed-off shotgun and threatened to shoot them if they didn’t get more money. One of the hostages, a 20-year-old female, told the attackers she had an additional $380 in her purse upstairs. She was led upstairs, where the attackers took her money, then took turns raping her behind the bar.

The four men finally left the tavern around 2:30 a.m. with about $2,400, jewelry and a video-surveillance tape.
