Shooting victim critical

A 16-year-old was left in critical but stable condition earlier this week after a teen opened fire on him, one shot striking his shoulder and traveling to his chest, collapsing his lungs, police said.

Investigators have been unable to interview the victim at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania because of his condition, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detective Division said.

At about 6:50 p.m. Friday on the 2300 block of Wilder Street, three males about 13 years old rode up to the 16-year-old on bikes. Without saying a word, one dismounted and pulled a gun, discharging several rounds at the victim, Chiaro said. The shooter got back on his bike and pedaled away with the other two in an unknown direction.

The victim had just left Show and Tell, 1999 S. Dilworth St. at Columbus Boulevard, at 4:30 a.m. Saturday when one of the men approached and said he was a security guard for the establishment, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said. Moments later, a second male with a white bandana over his face walked up and pressed a knife to the 39-year-old’s throat, demanding money and his car keys, the detective said.

The pair fled in the victim’s maroon Nissan with his cell phone and ATM card; police did not have a value for the phone. Both perpetrators were described as black, in their 20s, about 6 foot and wearing gray hoodies and blue jeans.

Charged with attempted arson

Police caught a 24-year-old in the act of dousing his uncle’s vehicle with gasoline on the 1300 block of South Front Street Saturday. As it turned out, the uncle offered his relation money to torch the former’s 2005 Chevy Tahoe so he could collect on an insurance claim, Detective Joe Chiaro of South Detectives said.

Third District police were riding by at about 6 a.m. when they spotted Antoine Combs, from the 1500 block of South Newkirk Street, allegedly pouring gas over the SUV, Chiaro said. With him was his uncle, Terry Binion, 38, from Newark, Del.

Combs and Binion were both charged with attempted arson, risking a catastrophe and conspiracy.

Investigators believe the men took the car to Front Street, where they were going to damage the auto then report it stolen.
