BOXING AT NEW ALHAMBRA

South Philly’s Simon Carr returns to the ring Aug. 24 with plans to avenge his lone defeat against Andre Hemphill. The two met in October with the local pugilist dropping a unanimous decision.

The evening of boxing will be highlighted by Northeast Philadelphia’s Derek "Pooh" Ennis, 12-3-1, 9 KO’s, taking on Dennis Sharp, 17-5, 3 KO’s, in an eight-round light middleweight attraction. The card also features Jonathan "Reid Dawg" Reid, 34-6, 19 KO’s, from the ’05 season of "The Contender." South Philly’s own Joe "Kid Vicious" Christy will get another shot at Clarence "Sonny Bono" Taylor in a rubber match. Christy took the ’02 meeting via unanimous decision, while Taylor scored a split-decision victory in ’05. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with first bell at 7:30. www.newalhambra.com.


DVYAA FALL BASEBALL

NEUMANN-GORETTI ICE HOCKEY

PALUMBO REC CENTER

Palumbo Recreation Center, 10th and Fitzwater streets, is accepting registrations for NFL Flag Football for ages 9 to 11 and 12 to 14. Cost is $45.

The center also is holding sign-ups for an in-house indoor soccer program for ages 8 to 10. Cost is $25.

ROMAN CATHOLIC ICE HOCKEY

The Roman Catholic ice hockey club is taking registration for its middle school program for boys in fifth through eighth grade. The squad will be part of the West Chester-based Ice Line Scholastic Hockey League. Weekly practices will be held at the Flyers Skate Zone in Northeast Philadelphia beginning 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13. Shot Tower Playground, Front and Carpenter streets, holds rookie baseball for ages 7 to 10 6 p.m. Tuesdays through September. Indoor soccer for ages 8 to 10 takes place 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 to Nov. 27. Registration fee is $25.
