If you’re looking for scores on how the Girard Academic Music Program and Prep Charter baseball teams fared in this week’s District 12 playoff, blame Mother Nature for the scores being unavailable by press time. The doubleheader scheduled for Monday afternoon at Seventh Street and Packer Avenue was postponed as a result of an unseasonable blast of nasty, rainy and cold weather. Monday’s entire bracket of playoff action was pushed to Wednesday, with another round scheduled for this afternoon.

Prep Charter needed to get past Engineering & Science in the Class AA semifinal, with the winner advancing to this afternoon’s district final to face the winner of the Saul Nueva Esperanza, which also was played Wednesday. The remaining higher-seeded team will host the contest.

In the Class A bracket, the GAMP Pioneers were looking to make it four-straight trips to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament, needing a victory over Masterman to seal the deal. If successful, the squad will return to the field for Monday afternoon’s Public League quarterfinal portion of the playoffs. The semifinals are May 21 at La Salle University with the championship match taking place a week later at Campbell’s Field on the scenic Camden Waterfront.

The Catholic League quarterfinals, which this year include the 9-3 Neumann-Goretti Saints, will take place May 20 at the home fields of the higher-seeded teams. Today’s final regular season game against Archbishop Wood will help determine final playoff positioning. This will be the school’s first postseason appearance since 1998.
