A toddler and two family friends were caught in the crossfire of a Pennsport shooting Saturday — the same day as the boy’s third birthday.

The group heard multiple gunshots and saw flashes of light from nearby bushes as they were sitting outside at 11:49 p.m. on the 300 block of Washington Avenue, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The 30-year-old woman was shot once in the left shoulder, while the left side of the 34-year-old man’s abdomen was grazed by a bullet. The boy was hit in his left calf.

The trio was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital by medic. The woman and child were admitted in stable condition, while no treatment was deemed necessary for the man’s injury, which was minor, Tolliver said.

Upon further investigation, detectives located multiple calibers of ballistic evidence, along with a damaged drainpipe and a 2003 Kia with a broken window, on the 1000 block of South Fourth Street, Tolliver said. The unlit area is near Dumpsters and bushes. No one could provide a description of the suspects as the shooting occurred about 30 feet away.
