A 16-year-old was rushed into surgery with a bullet lodged in his chest after he was shot five times in Point Breeze.

The teen was at a house party on the 1300 block of South 23rd Street Sunday with his mother about 15 minutes prior to being shot, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. At about 2:01 a.m., police found him sitting on a front step of a dwelling on the 2300 block of Reed Street. He suffered three wounds to his right arm, one in his right side in addition to the one stuck in his chest.

When his mother was informed of the shooting, she rushed to the location and asked him what had happened, but all her son could say was that he could not breathe, Tolliver said. Police transported the teen and his mother to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition and he was rushed in to surgery.

Police were not able to locate a crime scene on Reed Street and witnesses told detectives inconsistent reports of the shooting, Tolliver said. No description of the shooter was provided.
