A perpetrator tackled a Queen Village cheesesteak shop’s manager and ran off with the store funds Sunday evening.

The 60-year-old Jim’s Steaks manager left the 400-South-St. establishment at 5:37 p.m. to deposit $32,000 at TD Bank, 200 Lombard St., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He headed west on South Street and south on Leithgow Street toward his car, which was located on the 400 block of Bainbridge Street, when a man ran up from beside a parked automobile and tackled him on the 600 block of South Leithgow.

The unknown perpetrator was unarmed and tried to grab the bag that contained the cash along with the manager’s identification card and personal credit cards, but struggled briefly before wrestling the pouch from him, Tolliver said. The offender fled south on Leithgow, east on Bainbridge and south on Fourth Street.

The manager was unharmed, Tolliver said.

The suspect, who witnesses saw hanging around the area prior to the robbery, was described as a black man with a light complexion, in his 20s, with shaggy hair and wearing a black T-shirt and tan shorts.
