Knocked off his wheels

About a dozen shots were heard on a Grays Ferry street with two striking a teen riding a bike last week.

A 14- and two 18-year-old males were cruising east along the 2600 block of Snyder Avenue on their bicycles at 11:13 p.m. Aug. 17, but when they turned north on to 26th Street, they heard about 10 to 15 shots behind them, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Two of the bullets struck one of the older teens in the right thigh.

Those unscathed fled east on Point Breeze Avenue while the wounded man fled west at the intersection and soon collapsed on the street where police found him, Tolliver said. He was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and immediately rushed into surgery.

Police did not locate any ballistics evidence or surveillance cameras at the scene, Tolliver said. None of the teens spotted the shooter or shooters.
