A Grays Ferry man was pinned for allegedly stealing from a City Avenue store and attacking an employee who confronted him.

Surveillance video supposedly captured John Bailey, 36, of the 1300 block of South Hollywood Street, placing items inside his jacket prior to exiting CVS at about 3:53 p.m. March 6, according to the Police Public Affairs Unit. When an employee tried to stop him, Bailey allegedly hit the worker, which resulted in severe lacerations, before fleeing eastbound on Haverford Avenue.

An anonymous tip to Southwest Detective Division identified Bailey, who was arrested April 1 and charged with aggravated assault, robbery, retail theft, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to court records.

Bailey had guilty pleas and convictions for thefts dating back to 1997, according to court records. He also has three open retail theft cases in the 12th District, as well as in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
