Two men threw a man off of his bike and robbed him after a brutal assault early Monday. When he went to the hospital 12 hours after his attack, doctors discovered the severity of his injuries.

On his way home from work at 1 a.m., the 21-year-old cyclist pedaled down the 1100 block of South Ninth Street where two men disrupted his ride, shoving him to the ground and punching and kicking him in the head. One said, “Give me the money,” and the duo took about $300, his backpack containing clothing and his light blue 22-inch racing bicycle.

The offenders fled in an unknown direction while the victim walked home and went to sleep. At about 1 p.m. a family member escorted the teen to Methodist Hospital, which transported him to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Trauma Unit for a possible brain injury. At press time, detectives were unable to interview the victim, who suffered severe head trauma, including a left orbital fracture and hematoma in the temporal lobe, due to his condition.

A detailed description of the offenders was not available at press time.
