Custom arrangements

Whether it’s a $10 bouquet or a $300 arrangement for a wedding or event, the staff of Ten Pennies, 1921 S. Broad St., provides personalized attention to each customer. Bringing home best florist for the second consecutive year, owner Ann Catania takes pride in delivering superior customer service and merchandising.

“That goes to show you, even being in business for 34 years, we still have a passion for what we do and are honored to give our clients the best,” she said.

Even though Ten Pennies moved a few doors down at one point, the shop has been located along South Broad Street and in the heart of the community since opening in 1980. Ten Pennies focuses on a large geographic area, but Catania, who was born and raised in South Philly, has a special place in her heart for the surrounding neighborhoods. And, even with the majority of the business being computerized nowadays, she still makes sure her staff provides a personal touch.

“I ask what their needs are and whether it’s a birthday, wedding or funeral tribute, and that I would like to be given the honor of doing their flowers,” Catania said. The shop creates stunning floral arrangements for more weddings than she can count, but the owner treats each account as if they are her only client.

“I give them the very best of me, and it trickles down to my designers,” she said. “I won’t accept anything that is not the best and each person is treated equally.”

Petal Pusher blossomed in second place, with Cedrone Flowers planting a third-place seed.
