Fresh possibilities

In a neighborhood not necessarily known for cuisine popped up the latest best new restaurantBreezy’s Café, 1200 Point Breeze Avenue. Partners Scott Harnish and Kristin Wolak, both residents of Point Breeze, opened this novel spot simply because they wanted more nutritional options and variety in their own community. And, the result has been described as nothing short of perfection.

“I didn’t think we had a chance so it’s awesome and we’re more surprised than anything else,” Harnish said.

The two took their diverse backgrounds – Harnish was a former food truck owner while Wolak worked as a nanny and photo editor – and applied it to their neighborhood when they originally started Breezy’s in March 2012. After a short period of time, they moved two blocks and reopened at the current location in December. The co-owners’ belief in natural, unprocessed foods has made this place stand out.

“We believe in the quality of food,” Harnish said. “We are just trying to serve local and quality ingredients to the masses and not just one type of person.”

With that in mind, the menu features both vegetarian and vegan options, hormone and steroid free meats and cheeses and as much organic choices as possible. The café has a loyal vegan and grassfed following, and the staff cooks and bakes a large percentage of the menu on the premises. Harnish and Wolak are grateful and excited to receive this recognition.

Noord did Norway proud in second, with Laurel picking up laurels in third.
