Police arrested a Newbold man for his alleged assault of another male on Sunday.

At 3:12 a.m., police received notice of an incident inside the Republican Club, 1743 Snyder Ave. They arrived at Methodist Hospital and encountered the complainant and witnesses, who had taken a taxi from the Newbold site, and learned the former was using the location’s bathroom when the supposed aggressor allegedly attempted to enter the lavatory behind him, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The two became involved in a verbal spat that soon escalated and ended with the offender’s reported striking of the victim with a glass beer bottle.

The incident caused a severe laceration to his left eye, a blow that is likely to lead to permanent vision loss, Tolliver said. He received a transfer to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital shortly after, with the witnesses helping authorities to ascertain the supposed attacker’s identity.

They proceeded to the 2200 block of South 15th Street and arrested Bryce Nadeau, 41, upon a positive identification and charged him with possession of an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person and two counts of assault. He posted his $3,000 bail and awaits a June 19 preliminary hearing.
