A man taking his dog for an early a.m. stroll ended up assaulted in Whitman.

The complainant told police he had been walking along the 400 block of Jackson Street at around 2:30 July 16 when three unknown figures approached him from behind. The lead aggressor grabbed him by his shoulder, turned him around, and punched him under the right eye, threatening to pull out a gun if the complainant did not part with his belongings, Detective Danielle Tolliver, of South Detective Division, said.

The victim put his hands up, allowing the eager criminal to remove from his pockets $40, identification, and a key before he and his peers fled westbound on Jackson Street. He described the offenders as black, with the first being 5-foot-11 and 150 pounds; having a dark complexion and a thin build; being clean-shaven; and wearing a black shirt and dark shorts; the second as 6 foot and 200 pounds; having a dark complexion and a muscular build; being clean-shaven; and wearing blue jeans shorts; and the third as 5-foot-7 and 200 pounds; having a dark complexion and a chubby build; being clean-shaven; and wearing red Michael Jordan basketball shorts.
