Liann’s Iced Tea with Lemon and Orange

In “Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology),” Marvin Gaye laments how cruelly humanity treats the earth. With our recent spate of scorching temperatures, one could easily pen a song about how the sun has chosen to fight back. Water will never wane as a wonderful way to ward off the wacky weather, but Liann Amorose wants another summer staple to be your salvation with her Iced Tea with Lemon and Orange recipe.

The resident of the 1800 block of South 17th Street has begun to become a regular contributor to this section of our publication, and it is apparent that she knows the value of finding relief when the climate clobbers us. Pour an exceptionally tall glass of this concoction from the Point Breeze inhabitant, and when you have finished it, go ahead and down another. ■

Ingredients:

1 gallon and 1 cup of water

9 or 10 tea bags

10 to 12 tablespoons of sugar

4 or 5 medium lemons

1 large navel orange

Directions:

Cut the lemons and the orange into eight pieces each, and discard the seeds. Place the water in a large pot, and boil for around 12 minutes.

Add the tea bags, and let simmer for three to five minutes. Remove the bags, and add the sugar and the lemon and orange pieces, squeezing them a bit in doing so. Let the contents cool in the pot, and pour in a bottle with some pieces of the fruits. Place in your refrigerator to chill.
