On Sept. 8, the Philadelphia Police Department announced the arrests of two locals for their supposed individual involvement in a theft and a robbery. It detained Malik Wilson, 41, of the 1700 block of Wharton Street, on Aug. 31 and charged him with robbery and related offenses for an incident on the 800 block of Washington Avenue. He had not posted his $50,000 bail as of press time and will have a preliminary hearing today. The department also arrested Lori Varnis, 50, of the 200 block of Moore Street, Aug. 11, for reportedly committing a theft on the 1900 block of South Camac Street. Court records list her as having a $5,000 unsecured bail, and she will also have a preliminary hearing today. SPR
