Basketball opportunities

UYA and Philadelphia Ball Hawks are overseeing a 14-and-younger and High School Basketball League at Marian Anderson Recreation Center, 744 S. 17th St. The cost is $10 for an individual player. Biddy basketball

Academy at Palumbo senior basketball player Myles Carter became the second player in program history to reach 1,000 points Tuesday afternoon.

Coed soccer

The Edward O’Malley Athletic Association, 144 Moore St., will be accepting signups for its 6–8 year old instructional league ($30), 9–10 year old competitive league ($35), and 11–14 year old competitive league ($35) 7–9 p.m. Feb. 15 and 22 and March 1 and 3–6 p.m. Feb. 26. Passyunk Square resident Bryan Hughes, the president of the South Philadelphia Tennis Association, learned Friday that he will be on the United States Tennis Association’s Schools Committee for the 2017-;’18 term.

Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds captured the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player award Sunday in Los Angeles, scoring the winning goal in the Metropolitan Division’s 4–3 win over the Pacific Division.
