A former Neumann-Goretti basketball player is believed to be one of the victims from Saturday’s double shooting in Queen Village.
On Sunday, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 3rd District Officers responded to a hospital case at Jefferson Hospital for a report of a male shot in the leg. Officers located a 16-year-old male who informed police that while standing outside in the courtyard with friends on the 900 block of South Fourth Street, he heard several gunshots and started running, then realized he was shot in the leg, according to Officer Tanya Little of the Police Public Affairs said. He was transported to Jefferson hospital by private vehicle, and listed in stable condition.
At approximately 12:23 a.m., 3rd District Officers responded to Pennsylvania Hospital for a second shooting victim — a 22-year-old male who informed officers that he was standing in the same location with friends when he heard five or six gunshots. The individual, according to published reports, is current Towson University senior forward and co-captain John Davis. Police, as of press time, had not released the names of either victim. The latter victim ran home, and noticed he was bleeding from his right knee. He was transported to Pennsylvania Hospital by private vehicle and later transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center by medics in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his right knee. The Public Affairs department released a report matching the location of where Davis was shot.
Davis was in town for Saturday’s game at Drexel University, which his Tigers won ,69–65. He did not disappoint his hometown crowd, turning in a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

During Tuesday’s Colonial Athletic Association teleconference, Towson head men’s basketball coach Pat Skerry announced that the senior forward and co-captain will miss the remainder of the season,
“His health is fine,” Skerry said during the call. “He’ll be able to play next year overseas, but he won’t play the rest of this season. He’s been a leader for us and a good role model for our guys. We are forever grateful for John. He’s done a lot of more for our program than what we were ever able to do for him.”
