Readers’ Choice: Victory Topping

The NCAA Tournament will likely be filled with its share of upsets, but no matter who is playing, many local residents are likely to be craving some pizza. Local pizza joints are accustomed to pleasing customers on a daily basis, with one place in particular — City Pizza — standing out above the rest as the Reader’s Choice winner for pizza.

Bruce Nagel, who is the manager at the 2700 S. 16th Street location, expressed his thanks to all of the voters.

“They have kept us in business for 20-plus years,” he said.

City Pizza, with a second location at Front Street and Snyder Avenue, continues to please customers with what they describe as “one of the best doughs around.” It’s the key ingredient to the crust, which continues to score high marks.

The basics — plain or pepperoni — are consistently among the top sellers. The City Old Style Pizza, a thin-crust square pie, brushed with olive oil, fresh garlic and Romano cheese with a layer of thin sliced mozzarella and topped with crushed plum tomatoes, is another popular pie.

Hungry for something else? Try the City Steak — a blend of mozzarella, American, cheddar with freshly cooked steak and choice of onions or peppers.

Don’t worry, Nagel and the rest of the City Pizza team are ready to handle all of those NCAA tournament time orders.

Lorenzo’s Pizza grabbed a slice of second while Francoluigi and Celebre’s Pizzeria shared a taste of third.
