Foodies, and non-foodies, for that matter, frequent the avenue when looking to grab a bite. We are talking the popular South Philly strip that has earned national recognition in terms of food. Name a food, and you will likely find it here.

Deconstructed guacamole salad and sweet potato risotto, for instance, are two of the more popular items available at Fuel, 1917 E. Passyunk Ave. Rocco Cima opened the cozy spot in 2008 as part of East Passyunk Avenue’s revitalization. It continues to earn high marks from patrons as the best vegetarian spot.

“Our team is so excited and appreciative of all our great patrons for naming us best vegetarian,” Cima said. “Our Passyunk Avenue location is Fuel’s original location, and we are honored to continue to serve the neighborhood great food.“

Additional locations now exist in Ardmore, Center City and University City. The catchy “Recharge Yourself” slogan keeps the customers coming. So does the fact that all menu items are under 500 calories. Having a great location also helps.

“Being born and raised in the area, it’s a great site especially during the spring and summer months to see tons of people walking the avenue and eating outside. We are definitely lucky to have such a destination in our backyard,” Cima said.
