All’s Fare: Hawthornes hosting block party tomorrow

Hawthornes Beer Cafe, 738 S. 11th St., is getting the Fourth of July festivities started tomorrow (July 1) with its 8th annual IPA block party (rain date is July 2). This free all-day, all-age affair will feature 75 selections of beer, champagne, rose and sparkling wine — talk about the hoppiest day of the year.

The party will stretch from 11th and Fitzwater streets to 11th and Catharine streets. There will be nearly 60 selections of IPAs, including hot new breweries like SingleCut and Hubbard’s Cave to venerable standby’s like Half Acre and Cigar City to local jams with Dock Street, Neshaminy Creek and 2SP.

“Our restaurants are constantly evolving, offering something slightly different every time you visit,” Hawthornes owner Chris Fetfatzes said. “With the recent law changes in Pennsylvania, we now offer a wide variety of sparkling, white and red wines, champagnes and rosés at Hawthornes!”

The menu will feature street food and block party backyard favorites such as sweet Italian sausage, St. Louis ribs, three bean burger, beef cheek chili, tostones and lemon poppy churros.

The little ones will enjoy plenty of fun in the kids’ zone where there will be a giant bubble wand, chalk obstacle course and chalk fun, bean bag toss, hula hoops, face painting and a giant inflatable slide.

The John McNutt Band (1–3 p.m.), DJ Christophonic (3–4 p.m.),
Las Palabras (4–6:30 p.m.), DJ Lexx (5–5:30 p.m.) and DJ Christophonic (6:30–8 p.m.).

Guests will be required to show valid I.D. upon FREE entry at 11th and Fitzwater and receive a wristband. The beer sales are handled exclusively at the entrance (at 11th and Fitzwater) where the guest will purchase any amount of drink tickets ($5 each, no minimum, no limit).
