Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp — hence the name — is stepping up to the charitable plate for a fun, baseball-themed night that will benefit the Pennsylvania SPCA’s life-saving mission for the region’s animals. There will be Phillies celebrity bartenders, an appearance by the Phillie Phanatic, adoptable dogs, raffles, games and more. Michael Strauss, who is one of the owners of Tap Room on 19th Street, is ready to turn up the heat with his passion project — the opening of Mike’s BBQ. His mobile operation has been cooking up pulled pork and brisket at events all over the city, including last month’s Newbold Jazz Festival. He is in the process of setting up shop in Passyunk Square, taking over the former site of South Philly Barbacoa, 1703 S. 11th St. Plans call for a fall opening.
