Victim shot, involved in accident
On Monday, July 24 at approximately 9:46 p.m., police officers responded to the 2300 block of Fernon Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers observed a large amount of blood and ballistic evidence on the highway. While checking the area for a victim, the responding officers were notified by police radio the shooting victim, a 30-year-old black male, was located inside a vehicle involved in an accident. The shooting victim was then transported by police to Presbyterian hospital, and he was reportedly suffering from two gunshot wounds to the lower back.
The complainant stated he was on the 2300 block of Fernon Street working on his car when an unknown person approached him and began shooting. After being shot, an associate of the victim attempted to drive him to Methodist Hospital, but was involved in an auto accident. The complainant has been listed in stable condition, and the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was taken to Presbyterian Hospital by rescue for treatment for a broken bone in the neck, as a result of the accident.

Woman assaulted, robbed
On Monday, July 24 at 7:19 a.m., a complainant reported that she was on the 1200 block of South 19th Street attempting to enter her parked vehicle when an offender approached her from behind, wrapped his arms around her and said, “Just drop it, give it to me and don’t make me hurt you.” The complainant reported the offender then cut her hand with a pocket knife, grabbed her purse and fled the area running northbound on 20th Street from Titan Street. The complainant was transported to Jefferson Hospital by a medical unit, and was treated for her injury with nine stitches.

Attempted theft of purse
On Thursday, July 20 at approximately 9 a.m., a 67-year-old white female complainant was walking eastbound on the 800 block of Mifflin Street when a white male offender approached her from behind and attempted to grab her purse from her arm. The complainant reported that as she attempted to hold onto her purse, a struggle ensued and the offender pulled her to the ground causing her to sustain minor bruising and scrapes to her shoulder, hip, knee and elbow before he fled the scene.
Nothing was taken and the complainant did not require immediate medical attention. The offender, who was reported to be approximately 30 years old with a thin build and wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, was last seen running toward 8th Street.
