Ss. Neumann-Goretti High School officially welcomed Joseph M. McColgan, an alumni of Archbishop Ryan High School in Northeast Philadelphia, as its new president last week. He succeeds Bruce Robinson, who announced his resignation in March to pursue new opportunities following the conclusion of the school year. McColgan has served since 2015 as principal of Acretive/212° — ACC, an early development start-up where he created a full-service hands-on Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction. He earned his master’s of business administration degree and bachelor’s of arts degree in political science from Villanova University. He also pursued a master’s program in International Relations from San Diego State University. …
South Philly fight fans may have heard of bantamweight Christian Carto, who calls 10th and Mifflin streets home. Since turning pro last summer, he has put together a perfect 10–0 record with 10 knockouts. It includes a first-round knock out of Juan Guzman from earlier this summer. He will look to continue his line-them-up, knock-them-out routine on Friday night (Aug. 11) when he takes on Philip Adyaka in the featured attraction of a nine-bout card at SugarHouse Casino. This will mark his eighth appearance in front of his hometown Philly crowd, with two of the other fights taking place in Atlantic City, N.J.
“It’s great,” Carto said of the local backing. “All my fans and all of my supporters get to come see me.”
He is no rush to start headlining cards on HBO or Showtime, just yet. At 20 years old, Carto has plenty of time to achieve his in-ring goals, whatever they may be. For now, he is focussing all of his attention on Adyaka.
“I just want to take it one fight at a time and keep winning,” he said.
Carto has the same laid back attitude when it comes to his knockout streak.
“If a knockout comes, I’ll take it,” he said.

Yo Cuz! In this case we are talking about South Philly native Steve Martorano, who has built a national following with his Martorano’s restaurant with locations in Las Vegas and Florida. But later this month, he will be celebrating his three-year anniversary at Harrah’s Resort in AC. We are talking a weekend-long celebration taking place Aug. 18–20.
