Do Something: The weekend rundown offers up a variety of exciting events

Locals may enjoy the Crayfish Party at the American Swedish Historical Museum or a concert by the country music superstar couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. If you are heading down the Shore, Nemann-Goretti’s reunion in North Wildwood or a Taste of the Quarter are among the other great options.

South Philly

Aug. 18

Get a taste of Swedish summer at the American Swedish Historical Museum and the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce Philadelphia’s annual Crayfish Party. Enjoy a buffet of crayfish along with Swedish meatballs, potatoes, cheese pies, crisp bread, cheese, and a glass of aquavit all outside under a beautiful lighted and decorated tent overlooking scenic FDR Park. 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 for ASHM and SACC Philadelphia members, and $60 for non-members. 1900 Pattison Ave. 215–389–1776.

Philadelphia

The Caribbean Festival will send yours senses to the islands as you stay in Philly. Experience 14 of the Caribbean islands. From a Caribbean workshop, a children’s corner, a marketplace, you will surely get a taste of another culture. Monster-Mania Con is a chance for movie fans to immerse themselves in the world of “It” — the soon-to-be-released horror/drama film with former Passyunk Square resident Jaeden Lieberher, who plays Bill Denbrough, in the cast. ‘Float: A Cinematic Virtual Reality Experience’ is part of the Philadelphia area’s semi-annual Horror and Memorabilia Convention. Val Kilmer and Kate Beckinsale are among the many celebrities scheduled to appear. $20-$60. 4–10 p.m. Aug. 18, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 19 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 20. Atlantic City

Aug. 18–20

South Philly native Steve Martorano is coming home to celebrate the three-year anniversary of Martorano’s at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City. Like a wedding, Saturday night is the big party with entertainment from Evelyn “Champagne” King, France Joli, Carol Douglas and Michael Martocci, DJ Chris Devine, DJ Jason E and other special guests. 7 p.m. Tickets are $250, and includes open bar and dinner. Taste of the Quarter: If you are game for extending the weekend one more day, the 10th Annual Taste of the Quarter is a worthwhile reason to do it. This is a chance to eat your way through almost every restaurant and eatery at the Tropicana Atlantic City, including red and white mussels from Chickie’s and Pete’s and Italian cheesesteak with sharp provolone and broccoli robe from Tony Luke’s — talk about a Taste of South Philly — plus samplings from more than 25 restaurants. Tickets are $30, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the United Way of Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in Atlantic County. 2831 Boardwalk.

North Wildwood

Aug. 19

Southeast Catholic, Bishop Neumann, St. John Neumann, St. Maria Goretti and Ss. Neumann-Goretti alums are packing their bags for North Wildwood as the Annual All Class Summer Reunion at Kennan’s, 113 Olde New Jersey Ave., North Wildwood, N.J. 3–7 p.m. $25 in advance/$30 at the door. Buffet will include pulled pork, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers and assorted salads. DJ Jimmy Mulholland will provide the musical entertainment. Proceeds benefit Neumann-Goretti High School.

Wildwood

Aug. 18–19

The Original Harlem Globetrotters will wrap up their weekend of fun in the Wildwoods with two more sure-to-be-entertaining games at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Games time is 7 p.m. $14–$80.

The Globetrotters are also offering a two-hour Basketball Skills Clinic for ages 6–12 at the Wildwoods Convention Center (10 a.m.-noon daily) where participants will learn about the importance of staying active and eating healthy. The fee is $49, and includes a voucher for one complimentary ticket (valued up to $45).
