Thursday night dinner plans call for Pizza

at the South Philly Review’s Eighth Annual Pizza Palooza

Yes, the Philadelphia Eagles are playing the Miami Dolphins at home tomorrow night in what will amount to another meaningless preseason football game. Sure, the diehard fans will still be there, and there are roster decisions to be made, but you can read all about the game on Facebook and Twitter. Besides, they are not playing the Cowboys, Giants or Redskins.

The South Philly Review is serving up a much tastier alternative tomorrow night. It’s called the long-awaited return of Pizza Palooza (many remember it by its former name, the Pizza Olympics). The South Philly Review’s Eighth Annual Pizza Palooza presented by Liscio’s Bakery is taking place at Penns Landing Caterers, 1301 S. Columbus Blvd., 6–9 p.m. tomorrow night (Aug. 24). If you love pizza — we are talking pepperoni, white, mushroom, veggie and other eye-opening creations — this is a can’t miss event.

This summer night out on the town is about two things: enjoying delicious pizza and entertainment. Come enjoy a slice or two from some of the neighborhood favorites. Maybe there will be a new pizza shop you have been dying to try, but haven’t gotten around to it. This is a golden opportunity to collect pizza menus for the next take-out night or rate the best samples of the night.

The confirmed lineup of participating pizza vendors is: SliCE, 1180 S. 10th St.; Cacia’s Bakery, 1526 W. Ritner St.; South View Pizza, 367 Durfor St.; Key Pizza, 1846 S. 12th St.; City Pizza, Front Street and Snyder Avenue and 2700 S. 16th St.; Millie’s Burgers, Steak & Shakes, 1441 W. Shunk St., South Bowl, 19. E. Oregon Ave., and Steak ’Em Up, 2600 S. 11th St. Hungry yet? This is an all-you-can-eat foodie event.

King Arthur will be hosting the event. The Mummers will also be making a special appearance.

Ready to join the party? Admission to this annual summer bash is only $10 in advance and $15 at the door for unlimited samples while supplies last. There will be a cash bar. There is also a family ticket option — $30 for two adults and up to four kids (12 and under). For those who would like to reserve a table, the cost is $300 and will include pizza samples and 10 drink tickets for the table. Free parking is available at Penns Landing Caterers.

Pizza Palooza is being presented by Liscio’s Bakery, and sponsored by Methodist Hospital, Metro PCS and Inspire Energy.
