Eric Bartello, the house DJ at South Philly Review events, is going live on Friday night (Sept. 22), as in broadcasting live from the Adelphia Nightclub in Deptford, New Jersey, on Today’s 96.5 FM. He is joining forces with fellow South Philly native Bob Pantano, who will serve as executive producer. Pantano is of course being inducted into the Philly Music Walk of Fame next month. The party starts at 9 p.m. If dance music from the throwbacks to new tracks is your thing, lace up those dancing shoes and go enjoy the party with DJ Eric Bartello. …
Edward O’ Malley Athletic Association, Front and Moore streets, is known as a great outlet for youth sports, much in thanks to its former president and South Philly Review Difference Maker Ed McBride. He passed away in June at the age of 78. When the organization started putting together plans for a fall block party, it was a no-brainer to name it after the former president — the only one in EOM’s 51-year history. The Ed McBride Block Party is taking place Saturday, Oct. 14, noon-8 p.m. (rain date is Oct. 15). It is being hosted by Moonshine Philly on East Moyamensing Avenue between Mifflin and McClellan streets, and will include live music, wiffle ball and corn-hole tournaments, food, a beer garden, games/activities for the kids, giveaways and more. Admission is free, with all proceeds benefiting EOM and the continued offering of youth athletic programs. Moonshine, Chef Big Rube’s Famous Fried Chicken, Uncle Oogies and Hog Face BBQ are some of the confirmed participants. The wiffle ball tournament will consist of three-person teams while the corn-hole tournament will have two members per team. The $25 per person entry fee includes a T-shirt and discounted drinks. The Eighth Annual Mums and Mutts Fall Festival is fast approaching, taking place Saturday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (rain date is Oct. 15) at Burke Playground, Second and Jackson streets. The event benefits local animal resources. Adults are $10, children 12 and under are $5. Friendly leashed doggies are welcome, too. The festivities will include live entertainment, food and drink, giveaways, bounce houses, face painting, magic show and more. Those cute pups will even compete in a doggie costume contest. There is a new Mexican restaurant to try on East Passyunk Avenue as Pistola Del Sur opened last week at 1934 E. Passyunk Ave. — taking over the former Palladino’s space. It’s the newest concept from the team of Casey Parker, Joe Gunn and chef Adan Trinidad, who are no strangers to the hot Philly food scene as they also own Jose Pistola in Center City and Sancho Pistola in Fishtown. There will be a Philadelphia Eagle sighting tonight at ShopRite of Oregon Avenue, 24th Street and Oregon Avenue, as defensive end Brandon Graham will be bagging groceries between 6 and 7 p.m. With September being National Hunger Action Month, ShopRite hosts an annual Partners in Caring Help Bag Hunger Day.
Speaking of shopping, the Lower Moyamensing Civic Association is holding its annual Fall Flea Market on Saturday (Sept. 23), 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. on South Broad Street between Jackson Street and Snyder Avenue.
