The Ss. Neumann-Goretti football team turned in another dominating performance on Saturday night, defeating Schuylkill Haven 44–7 in the opening round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA tournament. Running backs Leddie Brown, who has committed to West Virginia University, and Chris Wells contributed three touchdowns apiece to the winning cause. Wells carried the ball nine times for 114 yards while Brown racked up 164 yards on 16 carries. Tysheem Johnson picked off his team best seventh interception of the season. Andre Williams also contributed to the defensive effort with a pick of his own.
The 11–0 Saints will look to winning momentum going into Friday (Nov. 24) night’s quarterfinal match against 13–0 Southern Columbia, a 49–14 over Mt. Carmel. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Lehighton High School. The winner will advance to the semifinal round, which will take place Dec. 1 or 2.
