Archdiocesan high schools and parochial elementary schools in the City of Philadelphia will close at 1 p.m. today (Jan. 8).
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect this afternoon for the possibility of freezing rain and sleet. Precipitation is expected to begin between 2 and 4 p.m. in Philadelphia and continue through the evening rush hour. The very cold ground will allow for ice to quickly accrete on untreated surfaces, creating the potential for travel delays and disruption.
Archdiocesan high schools and parochial elementary schools in the suburban counties normally follow the decision of their corresponding local public school district and submit closure status independently.
