City-based record company Lame-O hosting third annual event at Boot and Saddle
Local bands from the Philadelphia-based Lame-O record company are taking over Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., venue every Thursday throughout January for a part of Lame-O’s third annual Rock Residency at the venue. The best part? It all benefits various charities.
Tomorrow night, The Superweaks will be headlining, along with No Thank You and Loose Tooth as openers. The following Thursday, the 18th, The Obsessives will headline with support from Hurry and Harmony Woods. The last show, which takes place on the 25th, will feature a headlining performance from Slaughter Beach, Dog and opening performances from both Three Man Cannon and Eight. All of the bands on all of the bills live in Philadelphia and are signed to Lame-O Records.
The show scheduled for the first Thursday night of the month, which was supposed to feature Cherry with opening acts Shannen Moser and Big Nothing, was cancelled because of the snowstorm.
“They’re great local bands who are from here and care about Philadelphia and live in the world of punk music and indie rock music,” said Lame-O co-founder and owner Eric Osman. “They’re cut from the same class of Philadelphia guitar rock bands.”
Ticket sales will benefit different charities on different nights. Last Thursday night’s show supported Planned Parenthood, while this Thursday’s show will benefit Beyond the Bars, a local charity that brings music education to incarcerated and undereducated youth. The following week’s show will benefit the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, and the one after that will support the Philadelphia Education Fund.
According to Osman, the artists performing in the shows were the ones who picked the charities.
They “focused on local charities and on charities in need now more than ever before,” he said.
According to Osman, the event came about three years ago when Boot & Saddle booker Jeff Meyers approached Osman about curating a month-long residency at the venue. Osman leapt at the opportunity.
“It was great the first year, and he had us come back,” Osman said.
In addition to supporting various charities, a coat drive will be running at each show.
“We’re trying to get as many people to bring as many warm coats as possible,” said Osman. “We want to make sure people are staying warm.”
All shows are 21+ and ticket prices are $10.
