Neighborhood Chatter: Check-out time at the Holiday Inn

There are no longer any rooms available at the Holiday Inn, 900 Packer Ave. However, if you are in need of some household items, it may be worth stopping by as there is a major house cleaning taking place.

National Content Liquidation is overseeing the everything-must-go sale, which started on Thursday. It continues 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays until everything is sold out. The sports complex-based hotel, which featured 240 guestrooms and a restaurant, is scheduled to be demolished to make room for the new boutique hotel that will be part of the Stadium Casino project. Flat screen TVs, king and queen beds, loveseats. media cabinets, bathroom fixtures, mirrors, commercial kitchen equipment and more are available for purchase. Items are being sold “as is, where is” on a first-come basis. Cash, Visa, Mastercard and American Express are the accepted forms of payment. Eleanor Roosevelt is back. The East Passyunk Community Center, 1025 Mifflin St., is sponsoring a presentation of “Eleanor Roosevelt: The War Years” on Thursday, March 1, as part of Women’s History Month. The performance will feature Pennsport resident Rene Goodwin in a one-woman show depicting one of our country’s most remarkable first ladies. This is a big year for the Lovely Baptist Church, 728 Snyder Ave., as preparations are underway for a big celebration — 100 years of existence in South Philadelphia. Plans are in the works for a black-tie, catered affair on April 28. Tickets are $50 each. It will be the first of many more events to come. Services leading up to the main day of celebration are Thursday, May 3, at 7 p.m. The Rev. Edgar Edwards from Little David Baptist Church will be the speaker. One night later, on May 4, the church will will host a Joy Night at 7 p.m. Anniversary day will follow on Sunday, May 6, starting at 11 a.m. The Rev. E. The Lower Moyamensing Civic Association is holding its monthly happy hour tomorrow night (Feb. 22) at Frida Cantina, 1000 Wolf St., from 6 to 8 p.m. This is a chance to meet and mingle with neighbors on National Margarita Day. Who likes soup? Well, the Feb. 26 Soup for You! is the first of a two-part series where chef Dolores will create two vegetarian-friendly soups and offer soup-making tips and suggestions. All participants will be automatically entered to win two soup books and a $20 gift certificate to Aldi. Two weeks later, the group will reconvene for a good old-fashioned soup swap tasting.
