High School Basketball Roundup

The Philadelphia Catholic League has announced its boys basketball All-Catholic selections for the 2017–18 season, and Neumann-Goretti High School, 1736 S. 10th St., is once again well-represented. Senior Dymir Montague and junior Christian Ings are both first-team honorees while senior Noah Warren was named to the second team. Carl Arrigale, who led the Saints to 12–1 regular-season record, was named Coach of the Year.

Several members of the Saints girls’ basketball also received recognition. Besides league MVP Jabaris Ingram, junior Tatiana Jones was named a first-team section. Senior Dajiah Parmley received an Honorable Mention nod.

Now that the Public and Catholic League champions have been decided, local teams will be back in action this week for the PIAA District 12 championship games. The Saints girls basketball team will travel to Lincoln High School on Friday night (March 2) to face Public League champion Imhotep Charter in the 3A title game (5:30 p.m. tip). The Neumann-Goretti boys basketball team will stay in the neighborhood to face Dobbins at South Philadelphia High School, 2101 S. Broad St., 2:30 p.m. on Saturday .

Rounding out the local city championship picture, the Audenried girls basketball team will also be in action on Saturday. The Grays Ferry-based squad will travel to Lincoln High School for the 1 p.m. 4A title game against Bonner-Prendie.
