Neighborhood Chatter: Movies, egg hunts reunions and more

Those looking to catch a lunchtime movie on Friday (March 9) can stop by the Fumo Family Library, 2437 S. Broad St., for a showing of “Crooklyn,” a 1994 comedy/drama directed by Spike Lee. The film is a semi-autobiographical story about a school teacher, her stubborn jazz musician husband and their five children living in Brooklyn in 1973. It’s rated PG-13. The cast includes Alfre Woodard and Delroy Lindo. For more information, call 215–685–1758.

Since many have to work or go to school, there is another family-friendly option. The 3rd Police District Advisory Council is hosting a Family Friday Movie Night featuring a screening of “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” at Palumbo Recreation Center, 725 S. 10th St., 6:30–9:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bella Vista Neighbors Association and Da Vinci Art Alliance, 704 Catharine St., will welcome a special guest on Saturday, March 24, as Jessica Dimuzio, conservation educator, author and veterinarian, will read from her award-winning book “Bark! Bark for My Park!” at 10:30 a.m. The event is for children ages 4 and older, conservation educators, gardeners and animal lovers of all ages. Dimuzio, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, has taught conservation programs around the globe, including Africa, Asia and North America. The East Passyunk Community Center, 1025 Mifflin St., is getting ready for day-before-Easter fun with an egg hunt and petting zoo. The advisory council announced the plans for this event that will take place rain or shine on Saturday, March 31, starting at 10 a.m. for children 4 and under. The egg hunt for children ages 5 to 6 will begin at 11 a.m., while ages 7 to 12 will start at noon. Participants have the option of decorating bags. EPCC will be offering golden ticket prizes.

Two weeks later, on Saturday, April 14, the center will host its third annual craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.There will be vendors, music, concessions and more. For more information about the events, visit eastpassyunkcommunitycenter.org.

Shot Tower Playground, 101–31 Carpenter St., will hold a free Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be a craft table, face painting and refreshments, too.
