Do Something: Annual East Passyunk Easter Egg Hunt taking place on Saturday

One look outside and someone may think Santa Claus is coming to town, but spring is not his season. Despite Old Man Winter refusing to make his timely exit, spring belongs to the Easter Bunny. With his holiday fast approaching on Sunday, April 1, he is making his rounds. South Philly residents can expect to see an Easter Bunny sighting at Saturday’s (March 24) annual East Passyunk Avenue Easter Egg Hunt. The free event is being hosted by the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center, 1430 E. Passyunk Ave.

Children will have the opportunity to decorate egg-collecting bags, enjoy treats, dance to family-friendly tunes and hunt for prize-filled eggs. The egg hunt is broken down by age groups, starting with children 4 and under at 11 a.m. The 5 to 7 age group will follow at noon while participants ages 8 to 10 will begin their hunt at 1 p.m.

Hundreds of children are once again expected. Just like in the classic movie “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” some lucky participants will earn a golden ticket. Instead of a touring the chocolate factory, the coupons will be valid for Essen Bakery, Favors and Flavors, Fuel, Green Aisle Grocery, The Nesting Place, P’unk Burger, Rolly Cow and Tildies’ Toy Box.

BEN FM will play family-friendly tunes. The Easter Bunny will be posing for pictures, too. For those who work up appetite, several restaurants along the avenue will be open for brunch or lunch.

This event is held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, goodie bags will still be handed out to families. For weather updates and information, visit East Passyunk Avenue on Facebook or @epassyunkave on Twitter. For additional information, go to visiteastpassyunk.com or call 215–336–1455.
