EPX and Friends of Southwark are pleased to announce the second annual Rolling Rodeo event taking place Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to noon in the playground of Southwark School, accessed between 8th and 9th streets on Mifflin Street.

This popular event began last year through the imagination of the Friends of Southwark group. Children under 12-years-old are invited to attend on bikes, scooters, roller skates — anything with wheels. The Rolling Rodeo will include games, an obstacle course, decoration materials and a hydration station. Volunteers will review safety rules, check that helmets fit and assist with minor bicycle adjustments and safety check. Adults can mingle with their neighbors and try a ride on an Indego bike. This event is free and open to the public.

This event would not be possible without the generous donation of helmets by Jefferson Center for Urban Health, a water station and refillable bottles from Bethanna, and snacks from Acme. Friends of Southwark would also like to thank Indego and the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia for all their assistance and donations.

Also, on May 12, Southwark School will once again be hosting a Family and Community Day, inviting parents, families and South Philadelphia neighbors to take advantage of their local school as a resource. May 12 will feature a cash only food fair of homemade dishes provided by the diverse Southwark community, there will be Indonesian, Burmese and Chinese items available for purchase, among other regional cuisines to be announced. Arts and literacy activities sponsored by Sunrise of Philadelphia and Fleisher Art Memorial will take place inside the school, and representatives from BenePhilly will be on hand to help connect parents and community members with available benefits.

EPX, Friends of Southwark and Southwark School are thrilled to come together to provide a morning of engaging activities for the whole community.
