On Tuesday, April 30 at approximately 5 a.m., an unknown African American male was captured on surveillance video entering the parking lot of the Hawthorne Lofts located in the 12XX block of Fitzwater Street.
Police say the suspect, who was armed with a machete, lurked around the lot checking vehicles for over an hour. When the victim, a 58-year-old female, approached the suspect, he lunged from behind a vehicle brandishing the machete ordering the victim to get into the car, according to police. When the victim threw the vehicle keys to the ground and ran away, police say the suspect chased after the victim but was startled by an incoming vehicle.
