Thursday, October 17

Capt. Hartzell of the 3rd Police District, the city’s district attorney office and Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler’s Neighborhood Meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fiedler’s office, 2400 S. 9th St.

Teens, Tech and Love: Technology and Relationships at 4 p.m. at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. Second in a three-part series for teens on our relationships to technology and each other. In this session, participants will describe their likes and dislikes about communication through texting, identify ways in which miscommunication occurs and develop ways to text clearly and avoid misunderstandings. This program is presented by Planned Parenthood Community Educators.

Crimes and Mysteries Bookish Club at 11:30 a.m. at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. Join the library each month for a casual chat about favorite detective series, true crime podcasts, unsolved cases, cozy mysteries and more. There will be a different book to read and discuss each month. This month’s selection is My Sister The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite.

Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler Mobile Constituent Services from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Whitman Council, 2455 S. 3rd St.

Friends of the South Philadelphia Library Fundraiser Happy Hour from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Thirsty Soul, 1551 W. Passyunk Ave. Come out to support the South Philadelphia Library and its hygiene kits. Entrance is free, and Thirsty Soul will donate 10 percent of all happy hour proceeds to the Friend to support the library’s personal hygiene kit program. Since May, the library staff has distributed over 125 kits filled with supplies like deodorant, socks, soap, pads, bandages and information on local resources. The friends rely on individual donations to continue. The Friends won’t be collecting supplies onsite, but you can use their amazon wishlist at https://amzn.to/2Yuzfdj. Sacred Heart of Jesus Flea Market and Festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy a day of shopping, food, treats and crafts. 

Sunday, October 20 

Valentini Productions presents “The Brooklyn Bridge” at 2 p.m. at Sheet Metal Union Hall, 1301 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. The show starts at 3 p.m. Relive the magic with songs like “Sixteen Candles” and “The Worst That Can Happen to Me.” For tickets and information, call 267-938-3742. East Passyunk Crossing Halloween Decor Walking Tour from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Singing Foundation, East Passyunk and Tasker Street. Join your neighbors on a self-guided walking tour of some of the best-decorated houses in the East Passyunk Crossing area. Meet near the Singing Fountain for glow sticks and maps.

East Passyunk Witch CRAFT Beer Crawl from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 1904 E. Passyunk Ave. Enjoy seasonal craft beers at close to 20 bars and restaurants along East Passyunk Avenue. Online tickets are $6.66 and include $4 beer specials from Founders Brewing Company, a witch hat and a Witch Craft stamp card. Tickets purchased in-person at registration are $10. Earn stamps by purchasing a craft beer, food or other beverage at participating locations. Collect five or more stamps to be entered to win a gift certificate prize package worth more than $30, with runner-up prizes from local brewers and bars. Registration is at Garage at 1231 E. A Mad Hatter-Themed Halloween Tea Party at 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Thomas F. Donatucci, Sr. Library, 1935 Shunk Street. Bring your fanciest hat and sense of wonderment as we celebrate both Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland and Halloween.  The event will have games, dramatic readings, prizes, snacks, juice boxes, and of course, tea.

St. Casimir Church’s Fall Bingo at 7 p.m. at EOM, 144 Moore St. Tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Ticket prices include 10 rounds of bingo, wine, cheese, assorted dessert. Items available for purchase include extra packages, specials, daubers and raffles. Lap game prizes are $100 in cash. Coverall prizes are $500 in cash and a fall gift basket. East Passyunk Fall Fest and Spooky Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1904 E. Passyunk Ave. East Passyunk invites you and your family for a double dose of spooktacular fun. Bring the whole family out for Fall Fest and Spooky Saturday. Family activities include costume contests (for children and dogs), pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, storytime reading, live music, scarecrow scavenger hunt, trick or treating and pet treats. For the grown-ups, enjoy live music, more than 40 craft and arts vendors, fall fare, spirited cocktails and more. Halloween Fall Fest in Girard Park from noon to 3 p.m at 21st and Porter streets. Bring your little goblins and everyone. Come dressed in your Halloween best. The event features refreshments, face painting, costume contests, DJ, dance contest, pumpkin patch, tricks and treats and more. Free to area residents and their families.

The Goldenberg Group’s South Philly Halloween Spooktacular at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Snyder Plaza East,. 29 Snyder Ave. Kids and parents can enjoy The Goldenberg Group’s second annual trick or treating event. Dress up in your best costume for a howling good time! Children must be accompanied by an adult. The event will feature storefront trick-or-treating, iHeartMedia trunk or treat, costume contest, live DJs, games and more.

You Be the Judge: an evening of food, drink and South Philadelphia-based KYL/D’s signature dance contest at 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at The Sculpture Courtyard, 1714 N Mascher St. Philadelphia. For a $65 Ticket ($30 is tax-deductible), you will receive one raffle ticket and be acknowledged as a donor on the KYL/D website and home season program. SOSNA Triangles will be hosting kids pumpkin painting with pumpkins donated by the South Square Market. The Igloo will be offering Ice Cream Pumpkin Pie with an 8-ounce cup with graham cracker crust bottom, pumpkin ice cream and whipped cream topping ($2.99).

Spooktacular at 6 to 8 p.m. at Christian Street YMCA, 1724 Christian Street. Join the YMCA for its annual Halloween party. The evening will include fun activities and crafts for the whole family. This event is open to everyone. Children younger than 12 years old must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Don’t forget your costume!

Local SEPA Convention of States Group from 2 to 3 p.m. at South Philly Library, 1700 S. Broad St. The public is invited to learn about Article V of the U.S. Constitution, which provides that 34 states can get together to propose amendments to the Constitution. This is nonpartisan. So far, 15 states have applied. Pennsylvania might also apply.

The Train Collectors Association Atlantic Divisio’s Thanksgiving Toy Train Show and Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Penns Landing Caterers, Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall, 1301 South Columbus Blvd. There will be 140 tables with a variety of vintage toy trains and repair parts for sale, test track, operating toy train layouts, kids activities, and door prizes for adults and children.  Admission is $5 per attendee or per family of two adults and all children 12 and younger.
