Thursday, November 14

Teens, Tech and Love: Social Media and Self Image at 4 p.m. at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. The last meeting in a three-part series for teens on relationships to technology and each other. In this session, teens will evaluate the positive and negative impact of social media on self-image and explore the characteristics, hobbies, interests and other qualities that make them unique. This program is presented by Planned Parenthood Community Educators.

Friday, November 15

Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler’s Mobile Constituent Services from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Whitman Council, 2455 S. 3rd St. Get assistance with state issues and concerns and applications for Senior SEPTA ID card.

GAMP School Grand Raffle Night from 6 to 9 p.m. at 2136 Ritner St. Tickets cost $15 and include food. Raffle sheets cost $20 each.

Saturday Constituent Services Hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler’s Tasker Satellite Office, 1537 S. 6th St. Enjoy coffee and doughnuts with the state representative from 10 to 11 a.m.

Saturday Storytime: Elephant & Piggie Thank-O-Rama Party from 11 a.m. to noon at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. What are you thankful for? Join the library for an all-ages storytime featuring “The Thank You Book” by Mo Willems and more books about gratitude. After storytime, there will be fun with Elephant & Piggie activities and giveaways.

Fall Street Tree Planting from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Passyunk Crossing Civic, 1025 Mifflin St. Join neighbors volunteering planting street trees in the East Passyunk Crossing community. Meet in the community garden for coffee, pastries and a quick training, then split into groups with a registered Tree Tender to plant trees. Help green the neighborhood and take ownership for the beautification of the community.

Friends of Fumo Library Monthly Meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Fumo Library, 2437 S. Broad St. Help us raise funds for library programs and advocate for more library services.

Indego Urban Bike Basics from 6 to 7 p.m. at the South Philly Library, 1700 S. Broad St. Are you interested in urban bicycling but want some tips for navigating city streets? Or, are you a veteran bicyclist who wants to learn how to use Indego Bike share? All are welcomed to join this free class that will give you the knowledge and confidence to start bicycling safely in Philadelphia. 

Thursday, November 21

Monthly Zine Workshop at 4 p.m. at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. A zine is a self-published magazine or mini comic that can be about any topic or interest. You’ll learn about simple folding techniques and design layout, and then have the time, space and supplies to work on your own creation.

Crimes and Mysteries Bookish Club at 11:30 a.m. at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. Join us each month for a casual chat about our favorite detective series, true crime podcasts, unsolved cases, cozy mysteries and more. We’ll pick a different book to read and discuss each month, but there’s no pressure to read along or finish the book before the meeting. This month’s selection is “American Fire: Love, Arson and Life in a Vanishing Land” by Monica Hesse.

Dance Me a Story from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the South Philly Library, 1700 S. Broad St. Listen, move and learn at this special storytime with The School of Pennsylvania Ballet. This free program is limited to children ages 3 and older. Call 215-685-1866 with any questions.

Spanish Storytime/Hora de cuentos en español from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Charles Santore Library, 932 S. 7th St. Bring the whole family to the library to share stories, rhymes and songs. The program is intended for preschool children.

Saturday, November 23

Infant Storytime at 11 a.m. at Fumo Family Library, 2437 S. Broad St. Enjoy stories, songs, rhymes, music, movement and lots of fun, followed by a half-hour playgroup. This event is  for children birth through 18 months and their caregivers.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel’s Annual Basket Raffle from 6 to 10 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 2329 S. 3rd St. Pre-purchased tickets cost $20, which includes dinner. Tickets at the door cost $25. Houseplant Workshop and Plant Swap from 1 to 3 p.m. at Fumo Family Library, 2437 S. Broad St. Learn the do’s and don’ts of plant care. Presented by Donna Williams, moderator of Philly Plant Guy.

Thursday, December 5

Lights Around the World from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Donatucci Library, 1935 Shunk St. The Geography Lady presents Lights Around the World. Join the library as it takes a trip around the world to discover how different countries and cultures use light to celebrate. Pictures, stories, sensory crafts, snacks and more await.

St. Edmond Choir’s Christmas Concert, ““A Night of Carols,” at 7 p.m. at St. Edmond’s Church, 2130 S 21st St. This event includes free admission and ample parking. 

Friday, December 6

Saturday, December 7

St. Monica Cash Bingo at St. Monica Senior School Gym, 16th and Shunk. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Games start at 6:30 p.m. A table of eight can be reserved. $25 per person includes three cards for each 10 rounds, dessert and coffee. Attendees are welcome to bring food and drink. 50/50 and special bingo rounds. Must be at least 18 years old to play. Tickets on sale at the rectory. Rectory hours are Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are also available at the door.

Can You Händel It? East Passyunk Pop Up Choir from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Singing Fountain, East Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street. Join a pop-up choral performance of George Frideric Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus from his 1741 oratorio, Messiah, on East Passyunk Avenue. Together, the group will learn Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus and other carols, accompanied by live musicians. Participation by the general public is open and encouraged. No experience is necessary. Everyone free to participate. The group will be using the Schirmer Edition of Handel’s Messiah. Bring your own score or print out your own copies, as printed copies will be limited. Santa visits the Library & Holiday Craft Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Donatucci Library, 1935 Shunk St. Join the Friends of the Donatucci Library as they host Santa Claus and a holiday craft bazaar at the Donatucci Library. There will be holiday storytimes, crafts, gift baskets, refreshments and holiday music.

Monday, December 16

Winter Solstice Celebration from 6 to 7:45 p.m. at the South Philly Library, 1700 S. Broad St. Come relax and celebrate with the Friends of the South Philadelphia Library. Meet your neighbors, enjoy refreshments, make a holiday craft and listen to live music. Interfaith Philadelphia will be honoring the library as a Zone of Peace. The library will also be collecting new, unused, brand-name items for hygiene kits, including baby wipes, liquid soap and tissues.
