District Attorney Larry Krasner last Friday issued a statement on the first-degree murder conviction for Maurice Green, 34, for the fatal shooting of 81-year-old Marie Buck on Christmas Eve 2016 in her corner store at 6th and Titans streets.

Green has been sentenced to life in prison and an additional 9½ to 19 years for gun offenses and related charges:

“This was an outrageous crime committed against a woman in the community that raised her and cherished her,” Krasner said. “Our colleagues within the District Attorney’s Office faced challenges in prosecuting this case, for which there were no direct eyewitnesses and a defendant who represented himself in court.

“Despite the unusual circumstances of this prosecution, which resulted in a jury mistrial in 2018, the Commonwealth continued to pursue justice for Marie Buck based on facts and evidence that made it clear Maurice Green entered Marie’s Grocery and fired his gun on the morning of Christmas Eve in 2016, killing Ms. Buck. As always, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is grateful to the jury for their service, and we are grateful to Homicide Unit Assistant District Attorneys Matthew Krouse and Joanne Pescatore for their skillful and persistent representation of the Commonwealth.”
