U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, a Democrat, announced last week during a House Judiciary Committee debate that she will vote to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Scanlon, a lawyer elected in 2018, claims it is “undisputed” that Trump used his office and taxpayer dollars to pressure Ukraine to interfere in the upcoming election by asking that nation to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, who sat on the board of a Ukrainian gas company that was under investigation.

Scanlon also maintains Trump obstructed a congressional investigation of the Trump/Ukraine dealings.

“President Trump’s wrongdoing, and the urgent threat that his actions present to our democracy, leaves us no principled alternative but to support these articles of impeachment,” she said.

Scanlon voted for the impeachment articles in the Judiciary Committee.

A full House vote is pending.
