The Grays Ferry Early Learning Academy received a Keystone STARS 4 rating from Pennsylvania’s Office of Child Development and Early Learning. The four-star rating represents the highest level that an early learning program can receive in Pennsylvania’s Quality Rating Improvement System.
Keystone STARS, standing for Standards, Training/professional development, Assistance, Resources and Supports, is a rating system that promotes quality improvement in early learning and development programs in school-age child care. A Keystone STARS designation informs parents that their children are in a safe, respectful environment. The program was initiated by the state in 2002.
“At Grays Ferry Early Learning Academy, we believe all children should have access to high-quality early childhood educational experiences because it lays down the foundation of success not only for school but in life,” said Unis Bey, Executive Director of Grays Ferry Early Learning Academy.
Grays Ferry Early Learning Academy is located at 1325 S. 33rd Street in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia. According to the school, the program increased its level from STAR 2 to a STAR 4 within a year.
Four-Star programs demonstrate higher levels of quality with dedication to school readiness skills, meet standards for teacher qualifications, continuous quality improvement and family engagement.
Grays Ferry Early Learning Academy was one of 14 early childhood establishments in South Philadelphia to receive a four-star rating in 2020, according to the state’s website.
