Dunkin Donuts robbed, police officer injured during response

A man robbed the Dunkin Donuts on the 2600 block of S. 18th Street minutes before it opened on Saturday morning, police said.

According to police, an unknown armed male forced his way into the back entrance at approximately 4:50 a.m. and demanded money from the cash register while pointing a gun at employees. He was handed approximately $813 and fled out the rear door, police said.

A police officer who was responding to the call was injured in an auto accident when the officer’s car was struck by a civilian vehicle at 4:57 a.m. at the intersection of 19th and Wolf Streets, police said.

The police officer was transported to Jefferson Hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.
