Studio 1935 moves into Bok Building

An award-winning music and recording studio has a new home in South Philadelphia.

Studio 1935, which was created by Pete Rydberg more than 20 years ago, has relocated to the Bok Building at 1901 S. 9th St. The studio is known for providing original music and

sound design for brands and agencies and offering production, engineering, mixing and mastering services for musicians.

It was formerly located at 1835 S. Bancroft St. near the intersection of 16th and McKean streets before recently moving less than a mile east, to the East Passyunk neighborhood.

The new studio will enjoy 1,800 square feet, including a 76-foot wall of windows, which provide scenic views of the city, while offering music clients state-of-the-art recording features. Amenities include a classic Neotek console, high-resolution Apogee converters and a wide range of instruments and amplifiers. As a certified Source Connect Studio, 1935 has the technology to make remote sessions easy and seamless.

“Being truly dedicated to the creative and artistic process is what I think sets 1935 apart and is why people want to work with us,” said Rydberg.

The Bok Building, formerly known as the Edward W. Bok Technical High School, was built in 1938 and served as a school until its closure in 2013. It was redesigned and repurposed to house more than 130 businesses, which include furniture makers, restaurants, tattoo artists, product showrooms, jewelers, videographers, architects, fashion designers, product designers, artists, charitable organizations and a pre-school.

Along with accessibility to full-service restaurants and coffee shops, clients of 1935 can enjoy the Bok Bar, which is a rooftop bar with incredible views of the city,

“Everything about our new studio space, from the open concept and the abundance of natural light, to the rich history and creative community offered by the Bok building itself, lends itself to an incredibly relaxed and creative environment for our clients to produce some amazing work,” Rydberg said.

1935’s client roster includes musical artists including Goshen Electric Co., Susan Werner, Ben Vaughn, Wesley Stace and Neil Nathan. Corporate clients include the Philadelphia Eagles, Blue Cross & Blue Shield Association, and Penn Medicine and Olympus, among others.
