Scholarships for local CCP students

Hilco Redevelopment Partners has earmarked $250,000 in scholarship donations to local residents attending Community College of Philadelphia.

The real estate investor, which began transforming the 1,300-acre former Philadelphia Energy Solutions oil refinery, announced a quarter-million-dollar Hilco Helps Scholarship program over the next 10 years with the Community College of Philadelphia Foundation.

Four students who reside in a handful of nearby ZIP codes have been selected and will receive scholarships for the upcoming school year and will be eligible for up to two years of funding, earning up to $12,500, which can be used to support tuition, fees and other educational expenses.

This year’s recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony in the next few weeks.

Recipients are current, full-time students pursuing an associate degree at Community College of Philadelphia.

Moving forward, the foundation will award scholarships to students who maintain full-time enrollment, a minimum GPA of 2.5, and demonstrate academic progress and financial need. Recipients must reside in South Philly ZIP codes 19146 or 19147 or in nearby ZIP codes 19142, 19143 or 19153.

“We are thrilled to offer the Hilco Helps Scholarship Program to Community College of Philadelphia students and make their pursuit of a higher education a little more feasible,” said Roberto Perez, CEO of Hilco Redevelopment Partners. “Our redevelopment work at the former refinery site in South Philadelphia is just beginning and these students are the future leaders of our great city. We look forward to supporting them for many years to come.”

CCP Students will be able to apply annually for scholarships over the next 10 years.

“Community College of Philadelphia Foundation is extremely grateful for the generous donation from Hilco Redevelopment Partners,” said College Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Foundation Executive Director Dr. Mellissia M. Zanjani. “Through the Hilco Helps Scholarship, the College will be able to continue its mission of enhancing and enriching the educational experiences of students, particularly for Hilco Redevelopment Partners’ neighbors.”
