Around Town: Children’s Playhouse has open spaces

Thirty tuition-free spots are available at the Children’s Playhouse’s Whitman Early Learning Center on S. Marshall Street. The center offers childcare and preschool programs for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Wide range of opportunities are available for various levels of income. Starting at six weeks old,

infants from low-income families may enroll in the tuition-free Infant Toddler Contracted

Slots Program. Preschool slots are also available at no cost for families through Head Start,

PreK Counts and PHLPreK. Some of these are income based and reserved for low-income

families, but others are open to any family with a Philadelphia address, tuition-free, irrespective

of income level.

“We know there is such a need for child-care, and we have about 30 spaces available,” Founder of the school, Damaris Alvarado-Rodriguez said. “We are waiting for families to take advantage of this opportunity.”
