Around Town: Power to the Prompt series takes art to the streets in South Philly

The Painted Bride will host a series of outdoor multi-disciplinary art events inspired by its Power to the Prompt project, which invites the public to respond to questions about what’s on their minds in these unique times. The series features three free outdoor artist-driven projects.

Premiering on Oct. 7 is Community Capital: an Afrofuturism South Philly Walking Experience, written and curated by TS Hawkins and Lois Moses. This self-guided walking tour offers a poetic expedition and unearthing through the streets of South Philadelphia. Participants will use a QR code to initiate their experience.

Call Home: Voices of an Evolving Philadelphia is an interactive multi-media exhibition by street photographer Terrell Halsey and poet/writer Lyrispect, which will be on display from Oct. 30 to Nov. 7 (location to be announced). This project uses photography, poetic prose, penmanship, projection and sound to animate the stories of a diverse sample set of Philadelphians embedded in the landscape of an ever-changing city.

The project invites people to submit responses to the prompts either digitally or into a dropbox on-site. The prompt, “If you had a magic wand, what is the one thing you would change in your neighborhood?” served as inspiration for the fall programs. For more information, visit www.paintedbride.org.
