Hundreds of early learning programs throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania are coming together to sponsor a Day of Hire on October 7.

Throughout the day, participating programs will host walk-in hiring events, featuring on-the-spot interviews at their locations. Potential applicants can learn about participating programs, the time of each Day of Hire event as well as available positions by visiting the Day of Hire website at ECEHire.com.

The event aims to simplify the job search and hiring process for potential applicants and promote the rewards of working in early childhood education. Many of the participating programs are offering great incentives for applicants including signing bonuses, higher salaries, benefits packages, professional development opportunities and tuition assistance.

“Childcare is the engine that runs the economy and the staffing shortages across the region are having a snowball effect that impacts all sectors,” says Carol Austin, Executive Director of First Up, the non-profit organization that has championed high quality early childcare and education in the greater Philadelphia region for more than 50 years. “Parents are seeking safe reliable care to return to work and support their families. But without staff, childcare centers can’t open classrooms making it challenging for parents to return to work and for businesses to function.”

Damaris Rodriguez-Alvarado, owner of Children’s Playhouse Early Learning Centers in South Philadelphia at two locations, experiences the situation daily and has high hopes for this collaborative focus. She said, “We have outstanding staff at our centers. We just need more, and we are happy to provide additional educational opportunities and benefits for our potential staff. The Day of Hire is a wonderful way to bring attention to this most important need in the early childhood community.”

The 2501 Marshall Street location will hold its event on Thursday from 3-6 p.m.
