The Saturday after Thanksgiving has evolved into a holiday shopping tradition while helping small independently owned stores and shops.

Following the Black Friday blowouts, Small Business Saturday was created to give a boost to those smaller shops sometimes overshadowed by the big box stores.

The East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District and its 160 independently owned shops and restaurants will once again urge residents to shop local on Small Business Saturday on Nov. 27.

“This holiday season, people’s commitment to shopping locally can mean a world of difference for our independent business community,” said Adam Leiter, executive director of the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District. “When you spend locally, your dollar goes further, making a personal and positive impact that resonates with multiple small businesses.”

On East Passyunk Avenue, Small Business has bloomed into an all-day affair with a plethora of retailers, service providers and restaurants offering can’t-miss specials, sidewalk sales and pop-up events.

Small Business Saturday specials along the avenue include Philadelphia’s first retail shop dedicated to living a low-waste lifestyle, Good Buy Supply, celebrating one year in business with music, food, free gifts, deals and more. Many others will roll out specials that can be found only on East Passyunk Avenue.

A Novel Idea at 1726 E. Passyunk will offer a “Shop Small Three-Day Sale” where everything is 10 percent off for in-store purchase through the weekend.

Deja42 Art Gallery at 1912 E. Passyunk will showcase handmade jewelry, mask charms, art and photography prints at 15 percent off during Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

Frame Fatale at 1813 E. Passyunk will have giveaways like logo tote bags and branded magnetic chalkboards (for refrigerator or locker), available while supplies last, plus complimentary gift wrapping.

Metro Mens Clothing at 1600 E. Passyunk will slash prices 20 percent off the entire store brimming with new winter arrivals.

Plenty more deals and special events can be found along the mile-long continuously walkable corridor mixing boutique shopping, cuisine and cheesesteaks, with shops, handmade arts and events.
