Southern defeats Palumbo in boys hoops

The South Philadelphia High School boys basketball team defeated Academy at Palumbo, 69-36, on Tuesday in Philadelphia Public League action to continue its impressive start to the 2021-22 season.

Yassir Joyner scored a game-high 22 points including four 3-pointers to pace the Rams to the victory. Seniors Dayon Warren and Jabree Coleman each chipped in 16 points for Southern (6-1 record) as the Rams broke the game open in the second half after leading 32-19 at halftime. Southern shot 11-for-12 from the free-throw line.

D.J. Gilliam scored a team-high 10 points for the Griffins.
